As of December 31, 2018, 23 people with sequelae of leprosy reside in our Sanitarium. In addition to the residents, patients from different parts of Spain come to our Sanatorium. In 2018, 28 patients came to our Sanatorium for control and outpatient treatment. We also receive some enquiry from people who know the symptoms of leprosy, because they have some affected family member.
In the molecular biology laboratory of Fontilles, 19 samples of 11 people have been analyzed for possible cases of leprosy, of which 7 have been positive. Studies were also conducted on 28 patients who had completed the treatment and came to perform their annual review. All of them had negative results to molecular tests.
The Autonomousc Government, through the Department of Universal and Public Health, collaborates in the project of specialized, residential and ambulatory care for people affected by leprosy in Fontilles.
